Late change to results following a retiral after the finish - New results posted All for now, see you at the next event. 1402 - The results posted are now the provisional event results. 1400 - Could not get a course set as the wind was all over the place, unfortunately we ran out of time, but after the conditions we saw first thing this morning it was great to get one good race in. 1355 - Wind switching all over the place, windward marks lifted and dropped twice already, but we are running out of time to get the last one in. 1355 - Results for race 4 posted, highlights below:
1335 - Race 4 completed, PRO setting up for a 5th...has to get it started before 1400hrs 1318 - Conditions continue to be on the light side but somewhere close to 10 kts. 1315 - Bryan Williams and Ross Nolan swapped places on the run, Brian Spence improved his position to 3rd, Greg Bell is also in the running now and Kieran Dorgan is also in the mix in the top half dozen. 1308 - Top of 1st beat, race 4, Bryan Williams of Carrickfergus has a narrow lead after a nice position on the inside of a lift, lots of boats overstood, now on the run back. He is followed by Ross Nolan then Christian Donagh in fourth another local boat with Brian Spence at the helm, they are followed by current event leader Kieran Dorgan, then Justin Burke and in 7th was John Driscoll. 1250 - BANG - All clear 1245 - In sequence - black flag Line is down and windward mark in position......
These pics taken yesterday, many thanks to Jake from J-shake photography.
1225 - Wind is still light, but there looks like enough for a start, it will be a real test as I reckon it'll be shifty out there. Gossip from yesterday......One of the competitors was alledgedly trying to proove that men are indeed capable of multi-tasking....trying to drive the boat, issue orders to his crew and loose the contents of his stomach all that the same time. Last night was a success, loads of people crowded into the club, great wee band, even a bit of dancin'. Many many pints were consumed and much rubbish was talked. 1215 - Flag is down and it looks like we're goin' racin'. SUNDAY - 1130 - Harry Flatters!!!!!! No wind at all, postponement flag is raised, but there seems to be little or no chance of a start. Niney the PRO has taken several trips in a rib around the lough looking for breeze but..... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1620 - Niney the PRO has just binned any thoughts of a 4th race and has asked the fleet to head for home. More tomorrow.... 6:15 - Results for R3 posted, Kieran Dorgan taking an overall lead witha first in R3, followed by Ross Nolan revocering from his BFD earlier then David Barry showing consistent improvement to finish 3rd 1600 - Boats drifting home to finish R3. Beat has been halved for the next race. 1545 - 2nd beat, R3, Kieran Dorgan hold on to his lead followed by the improving John Driscoll. In third Dave Barry followed by Ross Nolan and then Gavin Pollard. 1535 - Wind now definitely below 10kts, looking a bit flukey out there now. 15:30 Difficult to get an exact read as the fleet splits to go round the leeward marks but the leading pack at the bottom of the downwind leg included Dave Barry, Kieron Dorgan, Gavin Pollard and hanging in there is John Driscoll 15:17 1st beat R3, top 5 as follows, Kieron Dorgan, Dave Barry, John Driscoll Gavin Pollard and Alan McKinney. Very close through the whole fleet. 15:15 - Through the telescope near the top of the 1st beat in R3, the field is very tightly packed, one boat is standing out though, the smiling face of Homer Simpson, which is the logo on the sail of Alan McKinney's 'Duff Beer' 15:12 - All the boats looking more upright on this beat, as the wind continues to drop. 15:04 - Three over this time, Bryan Willis, Aidan O'Connell and Rory Byrne all are Black Flagged. The rest of the fleet are going up the beat. 15:02 - Black flag start, in sequence 14:58 - Results for R2 now posted 14:55 - Line now in place in more difficult flukey conditions, more movement of the course required 14:35 - Race 2 finished. PRO preparing for a quick turnaround for R3. 14:30 - What does SB3 stand for? 14:15 - Gordy Patterson has extended his lead with Aiden O'Connell still second, there is now an even bigger gap to the rest of the fleet, led by Ben Duncan who has improved by several places then Colin Galavan and Ronan Downing. Darragh Sheridan is also up there in the chasing pack. There is some excellent close sailing in the fleet with a particularly close encounter between Dave Barry and Dave Quinn. 13:52 - R2 1st beat, Gordy leads the way at the top of the 1st beat closely followed by Aiden O'Connell, then there is a gap to Ronan Downing and Darrah Sheridan, several boats having a bit of trouble trying to squeeze in on port, looked like a 'busy' rounding for some. 13:40 R2 underway, unfortunately Ross Nolan was OCS under the black flag and will have to rest this one out. The fleet is now half way up the beat. 13:32 - Sequence started for race 2, black flag still flying. 13:30 - Results posted - Peter O'Leary held on for a win, Kieran Dorgan also held on to second, but a storming last run brought local man Gordy Patterson through from 5th to third. 13:15 - PRO now making some course changes due to wind shift, the conditions have continued to soften, wind now dropped further, I estimate closer to 10kts than 15kts now. 13:10 - Despite standing on tables and chairs and looking through every window in the club, I still can't see the leeward marks, fraid you will have to wait for results. 13:05 2nd rounding, Peter O'Leary leads followed by Kieran Dorgan then Ben Duncan. 4th and 5th very close between Brian Spence and Gordy Patterson. Greg Bell also waving the home flag was in 6th with Colin Galavan and Dave Quinn just behind. 12:58 - One ealry retirement, Christian Donagh has come back to the moorings. 12:50 - They flew down the run....unfortunately the PRO moved the bottom marks to a position I cannot see from my current position, so no report on roundings there, but they have made the turn and are heading back 'uphill'. I will move my 'telescope' for the next leg. 12:44 - At the top of the 1st beat, Ben Duncan leads with Ronan Collins 2nd, very closley followed by Gavin Pollard and Colin Galavan, Gordon Patterson is also in the hunt at the front of the pack, Aidan O'Connell and Dave Barry were the last to round but less than a couple of mins behind the leaders. 12:32 - And they're off, thankfully, all a bit better behaved, no one over on the black flag. 12:27 - In sequence, black flag start. 12:22 - Still too excited, general recall again, I smell a black flag...... 12:17 - Wind has eased significantly, now 10-15 kts, still a few squalls around though. Also under much brighter blue skies. 12:16 In sequence - Blue peter start again 12:12 All a bit too excited......general recall, from the shore I could see about 8 boats over. Maybe more. 12:10 In sequence 11:58 Postponed, line boat slipping anchor. 11:55 Line is laid, windward mark is laid, looks like they might get away on time. 11:30 Hello and good morning! Under grey skies and in 20+ knots of 'breeze' the fleet of 8 boats that stayed on club moorings overnight have now left their moorings. They will join the other 16 boats sailing across from Carrickfergus. PRO is hoping to get at least 4 races in today as the forecast is poor for tomorrow.
