Royal North Cadets

Over the last few weeks some of our Cadets competed at various events in UK, Ireland and Europe. Congratulations to our RNIYC Cadets for their individual achievements and thank you for representing our club at these prestigious events.

 

Optimist Class:

Holy Campbell who qualified to the ISA National Optimist Squad at the end of last season travelled to Holland with the Irish squad over the Easter weekend. The event was held in Braassemermeer in extreme weather conditions .Over 4 days of racing Holy finished 13th in the Silver fleet a great result. This result qualifies Holy as a carded sailor with the Irish Sports Council.

Jack Brien travelled to Italy with an Irish team to compete at Lake Garda.  Jack returned from Italy in time to compete at the Irish Youth Nationals in Schull, where he had a good series over 10 races to finish 6th overall.

Laser Radial Class:  

Ross Vaughan, Tiffany and Jess Brien represented the club at the Munster Championships held in Baltimore 22/23 March. Ross finished 2nd overall and Tiffany 5th overall and 1st lady. Jess competed in the 4.7 class.

Tiffany and Jess travelled onto Schull to compete at the Irish Youth Nationals 25/28th March. Tiff finished 4th overall and 1st lady. Jess competed in the 4.7 class.

Ross travelled to Europe for two Europa Cup events. The first event was in Andora Italy (27/30 March) where he competed in a fleet of over 150. He finished 7th overall and 1st under 17.

The second event was in Lugano Switzerland (3/8 April). Ross travelled from Andora to Lugano where he met up with his ISA Academy Coach and team members. Tiffany and Ross represent RNIYC on the Academy who were supporting 4 sailors at this event.  Ross finished 6th overall and 1st under 17; Tiffany finished 8th overall and 2nd lady.

Mirror Class:

The Mirror Southern Championships were held at Lough Derg Yacht Club over the weekend 12/13th April. There were five RNIYC Mirrors competing at this event in a fleet of 24. Racing took place in varying conditions up to 20kts.

Adam McCullough with crew Toby McCullough had a good event finishing 2nd overall and narrowly missed out in an overall win due to gear failure.  Johnny Hill with crew Adam Hill finished 5th overall.

Catherine Vaughan and crew Sophie Patterson finished 6th over and first lady.  Craig Martin with crew Katie Patterson finished 7th overall. This was Craig’s first event helming.
