MIRROR CIRCUIT 2005
Easter weekend sees the start of the Mirror Circuit for 2005 kick off, with the Eastern Championship this year being hosted by Malahide Yacht Club.
Santa Claus obviously had a busy year in the workshop with two new ‘plastic’ Mirrors being delivered to RNIYC members Catherine Vaughan and Andrew Todd. Mike Hill has returned to the fleet in Andrew Woodward’s all conquering Poseidon [renamed Halo], and Gordon and Katie Patterson taking over the reins of Catherine Vaughan’s Turmoil 2. All these are joining Woo Kearney, Ross Kearney, Andrew Vaughan and Peter Todd who has moved to the back end of Mach 2 bringing to eight the number of Royal North boats that will be flying the Club Burgee throughout Ireland. Sadly, Gemma and Rebecca Ferguson have sold Stinger to concentrate on their demanding swimming schedule where we wish them every success.
Next stop after Easter is back to Belfast Lough for the Northern’s at Ballyholme Yacht Club on 30th April/1st May. Woo Kearney and Craig Martin will be defending their title, won last year at Strangford Lough Yacht Club.
Then it’s exam time for a few weeks before the long trek to Royal Cork Yacht Club for the Southerns on 25th/26th June, and, for most people, a new venue for the Westerns at Mayo Sailing Club in the beautiful Clew Bay on the west coast on 9th/10th July.
Skerries Sailing Club hosts the four day Nationals from 21st to 24th July and for 29 Irish hopefuls, the end of this event sees the beginning of the two week adventure that is the World Championship in Oestersund, Sweden. Woo, Ross and Andrew Todd are representing the club and we wish them all the best.
All in all a pretty hectic season but one that I am sure everyone is looking forward to.
