RACING
Racing will be governed by the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), the prescriptions of the I.S.A. and the relevant Class Associations, except as amended by these sailing instructions.
ELIGIBILITY
No boat shall rank as a starter for club racing until all fees have been paid.
SAFETY
All crews in the dinghy classes shall wear personal buoyancy aids when racing. Keelboats shall carry adequate personal buoyancy for all crewmembers on board. Wet suits do not constitute adequate buoyancy.
INSURANCE
It is the responsibility of the owners, or helmsperson, to ensure that they are indemnified against all claims arising. R.N.I.Y.C. does not accept any liability for loss of property, personal injury, death or damage to property howsoever caused.
COURSES
(a) Courses will be as per Course Card 2005. The course letter for the first round of each class will be displayed from the battery to the west of a board depicting their class flag at the five-minute signal prior to their starting signal. For convenience, the course letter for the first round of the first class starting MAY be displayed between its ten and five minute signals but when such an action is taken that course letter shall not then be changed before their start.

(b) Course letters as per Course Card 2005 for subsequent rounds will be displayed [as in (a) above] from the battery while boats are on the final leg of the round then being sailed - BEFORE THEY REACH HOME. When no more rounds are to be sailed, no course letter will be displayed. A board depicting the finish flag MAY be displayed.
(c) For Committee Boat starts Course Card 2005 shall not apply to the first round and the marks to be rounded shall be displayed on the Committee Boat where a red or green flag or board shall determine the direction of rounding. Thereafter (b) above will apply.
STARTING
Except when a Committee Boat is used, Starting Lines are formed by the short mast with the Day-Glo orange circle above the starter’s box and one or other of the two white posts behind the clubhouse. Each line has an outer and inner limit mark, which may or may not be on the starting line. All Classes must observe the limit marks of both lines on all rounds of the course (Home), except, that at the Start, the course (except for Courses K and W) shall be directly to the first mark. All Starboard hand courses shall start on the East line and all Port hand courses shall start on the West line. For Committee Boat starts the starting line shall be between the foremast of the Committee Boat and an outer limit mark.
RECALLS
Individual Recalls will be in accordance with RRS 29.2
General Recalls will be in accordance with RRS 29.3, except that the start time for the recalled class shall be five minutes after the last start on that day.
FINISHING
For courses finishing at “Home”, all Starboard hand courses shall finish on the West line and all Port hand courses shall finish on the East line.The finish line shall be between the short mast on the starter's box and the relevant outer limit mark. The inner limit shall be observed.
Provided that one complete round has already been sailed, the course may be shortened in accordance with RRS 32.1 (Two sound signals) to finish between a boat displaying the "S" flag and a nearby mark.
TIME LIMITS
Evening races 21.00 - Saturday races 17.00. When the first boat fails to finish within the time limit, points shall be awarded to that class on the basis of the last completed round. When a boat finishes within the time limit, boats in that class finishing up to fifteen minutes after the time limit will be recorded.
PROTESTS
Protests shall be in accordance with RRS 61. except as amended below. A boat intending to protest shall also fly a PROTEST FLAG at the time of the incident until she is no longer racing.
Protests must be lodged with the O.O.D. or a member of the sailing committee before 22.00 (evening races) or 18.00 (Saturday races). Protests will normally be held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. Interested club members may attend protest meetings as spectators only, subject to agreement of protestor and protestee. return to top of page
