Cadets

Welcome!

We are delighted that you have arrived at the Cadet section of the RNIYC Website. Our Cadet section looks after the needs of our younger sailors aged 8 to 18 years. Our Cadets are active throughout the year at RNIYC, we have racing, training, and social events. Some highlights of the year include our summer courses, Helen’s Bay BBQ’s, Lough Regatta’s and Pirates evenings.

Wednesday on the Water

Our Wednesday evening Cadet sessions are structured to give everyone an opportunity to cover all the skills required at any level of RYA training.
It is based on the RYA OnBoard programme.  It is sailing with rescue cover and a Senior Instructor. It is a popular night and members' families are welcome to assist these and then enjoy some liquid refreshments and food at the club too!

What else is available?

From RYA level 3 and up we encourage active participation in all cadet club activity.

Each year we provide training for RNIYC cadets to become assistant instructors when they are age 13 or older so they can assist others learning to sail.

We encourage all cadets to proceed to further courses and these include; RYA Dinghy Instructor and RYA Senior Instructor courses.

If Dinghy sailing isn’t for them as they continue through cadets then they have the opportunity to complete their Powerboat 2 course and assist on Rescue duty or experience keel boats and crew for other RNIYC sailing fleets.

We would be delighted to assist you further. Click on the link below to get in touch with our Club manager if you would like to join us.

The Cadets are run by the Cadet Officer: Gillian Killiner
